“Digital” The new byword and frontier in economic growth but despite all the buzz and attention, what does it actually mean for the economies of ASEAN? ACI’s recent webinar titled “Challenges and Opportunities in ASEAN’s Digital Economy” hosted on Friday, 24 Sep 2021 tackled this issue in depth. Speakers from ACI and Mr Konesh Kochhal, Director of Industry Ecosystem Engagements, Huawei touched on a broad range of issues that encompasses both public and private domains.
Key takeaways from the event include:
- Findings from ACI research on ASEAN’s Digital Integration Framework Action Plan and ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 highlighting the key policy objectives common across the regional governments. These include the shift in emphasis from ICT to digital, digital skills upgrading, the importance of SMEs and cybersecurity.
- ACI’s assessment of Digital Economy Agreement Readiness for Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. This assessment highlights the gaps and opportunities to be found in facilitating digital payments, digital trade and e-commerce in these countries.
- Mr Konesh Kochhal spoke in-depth of the major drivers and connections between the digital economy and major global trends. Most salient of all was the need for extensive collaboration across public and private sectors.
