“The Inaugural Provincial Dialogue on the Economy and Development 2020 for East Nusa Tenggara” was held on September 16, 2020. The webinar was attended by senior officeholders from various government agencies from East Nusa Tenggara province, members of Indonesian Employers’ Association (APINDO) of East Nusa Tenggara and academics from University of Katolik Widya Mandira.

Stakeholders’ Inputs
Business Sector
Mr Freddy, representing the businesses in the province, are supportive of measures to alleviate the effect of COVID-19, which include financial rescheduling for payables in the private sector. Mr Freddy substantiated that further financial assistance to businesses is pivotal to save firms.
Government Sector
In the short run, Dr Alfonsus Theodorus of Regional Planning, Research and Development Board of East Nusa Tenggara iterates the government’s intention to direct its recovery strategy towards MSMEs and the tourism sector. The policy action under this strategy includes credit relaxation and the reopening of tourist hotspots. These measures are also postulated to create more jobs. In the long run, Dr Alfonsus’s department is devising plans to invest in technological entrepreneurship and e-commerce to enhance East Nusa Tenggara’s economy.
Academic Sector
During the dialogue, Dr Henny Manafe of University of Katolik Widya Mandira discussed the potential to develop financial technology to support peer-to-peer lending, as an alternative channel for capital investment in MSMEs. On top of being the largest GRDP contributor, this sector has proved to be more resilient to COVID-19 impact, as compared to other sectors. This resiliency is advantageous for East Nusa Tenggara’s economic growth and recovery.
